Grace is a relatively new church - and we try to do things in new ways. That means we’re always looking for ways to connect with the local community, to get to know new people, to love the people of Porthcawl, and to live as Christians in the 21st Century. Does that mean we’ve got rid of tradition and all the other ‘old stuff’? Well, no. We’ve clung firmly onto the things that are God given, and tried to get rid of the things that are man-made and are no longer relevant.
So what does that look like? Well, it means that we believe that God has shown us what he is like in the eternal, life changing truth of the Bible, we live with the empowering and guidance of the Holy Spirit, and perhaps, at the heart of it all, we believe in the power of the cross.
It was Shakespeare who posed the question “what’s in a name?” and our name describes what we’re all about. We are excited about the fact that Christ’s death on the cross was the biggest act of grace this world has ever seen and the greatest gift ever given to humankind. God’s grace is shown in his desire to save people who reject him, to forgive those who are guilty and to bring home those who are far off: all by the cross.
We’re passionate about this message of grace, and we hope you’ll experience more of the life-changing, hope-giving power of the cross when you come to visit.
We started meeting formally at the end of 2005 following the church-planting initiative of Brackla Tabernacle. We are an independent church, though we maintain close links with Brackla. Our emphasis is upon Bible-exposition based preaching and teaching, charismatic experience, and community-centred outreach. Our goal is to see Christ glorified in Porthcawl through the hope and life giving power of the good news of Christ.
Tom Clewer is the pastor of the church, who leads the church with his wife Laura, with Neil and Margaret Matthews, with Ross and Ann Milligan, and with Rhodri and Katie Thomas. The overall leadership of the church is maintained by four elders: Tom, Neil, Keith and Ross.
We have events throughout the year for the whole family, you’re welcome to come and be part of the family!
We're starting the new year with a week of prayer. We'll be meeting twice a day to pray - so do join us as we seek God's heart.
Check out our Facebook page for more info. See you there!
Every Sunday we have a morning service where the church meets together in Porthcawl 6th Form Centre. We come to worship and to hear from God’s Word, and we come to build relationships with each other. Our worship style is informal and contemporary, and you will always be sure of a warm welcome!
Children can go out to Kidzclub where they can have lots of fun singing, learning and making! All of our Kidzclub leaders are CRB checked and child-protection trained, so your child is in the safest place. The young people normally go out to Xplode, where they can learn about God and ask the questions they have about life! Toddlers can go out to Bubbles for lots of fun!
At Grace we're all about relationships. We don't want to be people who just see each other across a pew on Sunday - we want to live life together, support, encourage and help each other, and be used by God in helping each other to grow. We've got a few mini-communities call Revive groups in Grace that get together officially once a week at their 'hub', but it's not really about the meeting - we want to build friendships that are real; family that is authentic.
We try and get together fairly regularly as a group of men and women, sometimes to do something fun like watching rugby or for a pamper party (for the ladies...obivously), and other times to get to grips with God's vision for men and women. As a church we believe that men and women are equal, but different, and God has a glorious purpose for each!
We have several youth meetings every week for young people of all different ages. It’s a time for food, entertainment and growing in God.
Are you interested in knowing more about Christianity? Maybe you’re not part of a church and you want to know more, maybe you’re a Christian but you want a firmer foundation for your faith. Come and discuss your questions in a relaxed and informal setting. These run throughout the year...
We are committed to week-by-week, expository preaching from the bible. Each week we record the sermon so that those in our family who aren't present can still benefit from the power of God through the preaching and application of the bible.
You are free to download any of the sermons from here or ask is if you would require an older mp3.
